Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din (Marathi Language Pride Day) is observed every year on 27 February, the birth anniversary of the Jnanpith Award-winning poet and playwright Kusumagraj (Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar), author of 'Natsamrat'. On 27 February 2025 the Marathi Language Department of the Maharashtra government held its award ceremony at the Gateway of India, Mumbai, the first time the awards were presented at that venue. The Vinda Karandikar Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar for 2024 was announced for senior writer R. R. (Rawsaheb Rangrao) Borade of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; the Shri. Pu. Bhagwat award for a publishing house went to Jyotsna Prakashan, Pune. The state also named Kusumagraj's native village Shirwad in Nashik district a 'Kavitanche Gaav' (village of poems).
