Bullet train project opens first section of 21 km undersea tunnel in Maharashtra

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project opened the first section of its 21 km undersea tunnel between BKC and Thane, between Ghansoli and Shilphata in Maharashtra, the Ministry of Railways said in New Delhi on 14 July 2025. The Japanese government agreed to introduce next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains on the project, to be introduced simultaneously in India and Japan, and the entire 508 km corridor is being built with Shinkansen technology. As per the ministry, 310 km of viaduct has been constructed, 15 river bridges are complete, and 5 of the 12 stations are complete. The BKC station will be 32.5 m below ground.
