Mahant Satyendra Das, chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, died at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow on 12 February 2025. He had been admitted on 3 February after a brain stroke. He served as chief priest of Ram Lalla from 1992, through the period of the makeshift tent, and continued in the new temple after the 2024 consecration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled his death.
