Magdala, sixth Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, launched at Cochin Shipyard

On 18 October 2025 at Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi (Kerala), BY 528 (Magdala), the sixth of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWC) for the Indian Navy, was launched.

Summary

On 18 October 2025 at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, Kerala, BY 528 (Magdala), the sixth vessel in a series of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWC), was launched by Mrs Renu Rajaram in the presence of Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition. The ships are indigenously designed and built by CSL, and delivery of the first ship is planned for end October 2025. ASW SWCs will add to underwater domain awareness, anti-submarine warfare and mine-laying capabilities. They are propelled by three diesel-engine-powered waterjets and carry a Hull Mounted Sonar, a Low Frequency Variable Depth Sonar, torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets and an NSG-30 gun. The same day CSL also launched a CSOV for Pelagic Wind Services, Cyprus, and the largest indigenously built dredger, for DCI, Mumbai.
