Five Armed Forces personnel honoured with MacGregor Memorial Medal for 2023 and 2024

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan felicitated Armed Forces personnel with the MacGregor Memorial Medal at the United Service Institution (USI) of India, New Delhi, on 16 April 2025. The 2023 awardees were Wing Commander D Panda (IAF) and EA (R) Rahul Kumar Pandey (Navy); the 2024 awardees were CHEAA (R) Ram Ratan Jat (Navy), Sergeant Jhumar Ram Poonia (IAF) and Col Ranvir Singh Jamwal, Director NIMAS, who was away on an expedition to Mt Kanchenjunga. Instituted on 3 July 1888, the medal commemorates Maj Gen Sir Charles Metcalfe MacGregor, founder of the USI (established 1870). Its scope was expanded in 1986 to include military expeditions and adventure. 127 medals have been awarded so far, 103 of them before independence.
