Senior LeT commander Musa alias Asif Fauji killed in Budgam under 'Operation Sheruwali'

On 30 September 2026 security forces killed senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Musa alias Asif Fauji at Gurwatkalan, Khansahib (Budgam district, J&K), in an operation that was part of 'Operation Sheruwali' started in May 2026.

Summary

The Ministry of Home Affairs said Musa was neutralised in an intelligence-led joint operation at Gurwatkalan in Khansahib police station area of Budgam. With his death, the entire group of four senior LeT commanders active in J&K since 2022 has been eliminated; the other three – Junaid Bhat, Suleman and Yasir – were killed in earlier encounters. The group was linked to several attacks, including the Baisaran attack.
