Early on 24 October 2025, a private sleeper bus of V. Kaveri Travels going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire near Chinnatekur village in Kalluru mandal, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. Police said the bus hit and dragged a motorcycle, and sparks ignited the fire. Nineteen people on the bus were killed, including two children; the motorcyclist also died, taking the toll to 20. Around two dozen people escaped. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each person killed and ₹50,000 for the injured.
