Rourkela Steel Plant to double capacity to 9.8 million tonnes by 2030
Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy unveiled a plan on 19 November 2025 to double the capacity of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha to 9.8 million tonnes by 2030.

Rourkela Steel Plant, India's first public sector integrated steel plant, will be expanded at about ₹30,000 crore and modernised at about ₹9,000 crore, Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said during his visit. He inaugurated a 1 MTPA slab caster at Steel Melting Shop-2 built for about ₹1,100 crore and reviewed Coke Oven Battery 7 and a new pellet plant under construction. The Odisha Group of Mines is expected to produce nearly 15 million tonnes in 2025-26.
