Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the '5G Use Case Test Lab' at the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on 9 January 2025. The lab is a testbed for developing, testing and adapting 5G-based applications for the coal industry, and the Ministry of Coal has nominated CMPDI as the Centre of Excellence for it. G. Kishan Reddy also unveiled a 'Replica of CMPDI services' sculpture made from scrap material and inaugurated CMPDI's new corporate logo.
