The keel of Magdala (BY 528), the sixth ship of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) project, was laid at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi on 17 December 2024 in the presence of RAdm Satish Shenai, Chief Staff Officer (Training), Southern Naval Command. The Ministry of Defence awarded CSL the contract for eight ASW SWC ships on 30 April 2019. Known as the 'Mahe' class, the ships will carry indigenously developed underwater sensors and are meant for anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and mine laying operations. The first ship of the project is planned for delivery in early 2025.
