The keel-laying ceremony for Yard 3040, the fourth (ex-GRSE) Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), was held at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), Kolkata, on 24 April 2025, with Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan, Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition, as chief guest. Contracts for the indigenous design and construction of eleven NGOPVs were concluded on 30 March 2023: seven to be built by lead shipyard Goa Shipyard Ltd and four by follow shipyard GRSE. The vessels, of about 3,000 tonnes, are meant for coastal defence and surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets and anti-piracy missions.
