On 14 November 2024 at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL), Visakhapatnam, the keel-laying ceremony of the first of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy was held, presided over by Vice Admiral B Siva Kumar, Controller Warship Production and Acquisition. The Navy signed the contract with HSL for the five ships in August 2023. With a displacement of more than 40,000 tonnes, the ships will replenish fleet ships at sea with fuel, water, ammunition and stores, boosting the Navy's 'Blue Water' capability, and will also be equipped for Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief.
