The keel of BY 529 Machilipatnam, the seventh Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, was laid at Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi on 29 January 2025.

Summary

The keel of the seventh ship (BY 529, Machilipatnam) of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) project was laid at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi on 29 January 2025 in the presence of RAdm Upal Kundu, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command. The Ministry of Defence awarded CSL the contract for eight ASW SWC ships, known as the 'Mahe' class, on 30 April 2019. Machilipatnam and its sister ships will carry indigenous underwater sensors for anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low Intensity Maritime Operations and mine laying.
