Security to be upgraded at scientific installations in border areas; IMD Srinagar and Leh facilities to get bolstered security

Dr Jitendra Singh said on 10 May 2025 that security will be upgraded at technical and scientific installations in border areas of J&K, Punjab, Chandigarh and north-west Rajasthan and Gujarat, with bolstered security for IMD installations in Srinagar and Leh.

Summary

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh convened a high-level joint meeting on 10 May 2025 with heads of scientific departments to review the security preparedness of scientific and technical installations. Security is to be upgraded at installations in border areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Chandigarh and north-west Rajasthan and Gujarat, and the Director General of IMD was asked to bolster security at its installations and data centres in Srinagar, Leh and other key locations. Institutions must review security protocols, inform district administrations, prepare SOPs for emergency response and an inventory of facilities in sensitive regions, and hold blood donation camps and self-defence drills. Upcoming examinations and research proposal calls were to be postponed until further notice.
