Jitendra Singh inaugurates AATAL, a first-of-its-kind air pollution source analysis facility for Delhi-NCR
On 24 October 2026, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL) at IITM's Delhi branch under Mission Mausam, described as the world's first-of-its-kind facility to identify real-time sources of air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
Summary
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL) at the Delhi branch of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) on 24 October 2026. Set up under Mission Mausam, the facility is described as a world-first integrated laboratory that goes beyond AQI numbers to identify the composition of pollutants, their real-time sources (such as vehicles, industry, crop-residue burning and dust) and their health effects. Integrated with the AIRWISE forecasting system, it will give the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) evidence for targeted action, including under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
