On 22 May 2026 Slovenia's National Assembly elected Janez Janša as Prime Minister by 51 votes to 36, ending a deadlock after the 22 March parliamentary election.

Janez Janša, leader of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), was elected Prime Minister of Slovenia by the National Assembly on 22 May 2026, winning 51 votes to 36 in the 90-seat parliament. The vote ended a deadlock that followed the 22 March 2026 parliamentary election, in which no party won an outright majority; former Prime Minister Robert Golob's Freedom Movement could not form a majority. Janša, returning for a fourth term, had to bring his Cabinet before parliament for a separate confirmation vote within 15 days. The Slovenian Government says he heads the 16th Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
