Paatil chaired a meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to help settle the Mahanadi water dispute amicably. The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal was constituted on 12 March 2018 under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956, at Odisha's request. The meeting noted progress of the Joint Technical Committee and an expanded Technical Committee under the Chairman, Central Water Commission, which first met on 29 July 2026.
