Digital portal for private jetties and terminals on National Waterways launched; first NoC for jetty on Mandovi in Goa

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on 9 April 2025 launched a digital portal developed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to invite private investment in infrastructure on National Waterways. It follows the National Waterways (Construction of Jetties/Terminals) Regulations, 2025, under which any entity, including private players, can develop or operate an inland waterway terminal on a National Waterway after securing a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from IWAI; the rules apply to existing and new, permanent or temporary terminals. The first NoC issued through the portal went to Mumbai-based Marina India Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. to set up a jetty, with an investment of about ₹8 crore, at Malim on National Waterway-68 (River Mandovi) in Goa, designed to berth up to 16 yachts and pleasure craft of up to 30 m.
