The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, issued detailed guidelines on 2 March 2026 for a mandatory 150 hours of On-the-Job Training (OJT) or Group Project for trainees in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS). The provision has applied since the 2022–23 session, when DGT restructured CTS courses in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and cut annual training time from 1,600 to 1,200 hours. Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary said real workplace exposure would make ITI youth job-ready.
