International Clouded Leopard Day was marked on 4 August 2026 with the Environment Ministry highlighting India's newly launched Clouded Leopard Conservation Action Plan (CAP) for one of Asia's most elusive wild cats. Prepared under the Government of India–GEF–UNDP initiative, the CAP was released at the 91st meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wild Life in Coimbatore in July 2026. The plan identifies 14 priority conservation landscapes across Northeast India and focuses on habitat protection, corridor connectivity, scientific monitoring and community participation. The species has also been included in the Species Recovery Programme of the Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats (IDWH) scheme.
