INST Mohali develops one-step method to make nano-cups for photothermal cancer therapy

On 17 June 2025, DST said scientists of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali, Punjab, developed a one-step room-temperature method to make PEGylated nano-cup semi-shells for photothermal cancer therapy.

Summary

Scientists from the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, an autonomous institute under DST, with researchers from ACTREC (Tata Memorial Centre) and IIT Bombay, developed a one-step colloidal synthesis method for PEGylated semi-shells with nano-cup morphology at room temperature, DST reported on 17 June 2025. Such semi-shells can be used for photothermal therapy to treat cancer. Conventional methods are multi-step or need harsh agents such as hydrofluoric acid. The research was published in Communications Chemistry, a Nature group journal.
