On 18 July 2025 at Visakhapatnam, INS Nistar, the first indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessel, was commissioned into the Indian Navy.

INS Nistar, the first indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam on 18 July 2025 in the presence of Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth. The ship is the first of two Diving Support Vessels being built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited and is designed for complex deep-sea saturation diving and rescue operations, a capability few navies possess. INS Nistar carries Remotely Operated Vehicles, a Self-Propelled Hyperbaric Life Boat and Diving Compression Chambers, and was built with over 80 percent indigenous content and the participation of 120 MSMEs. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi called it a crucial operational enabler that will help India emerge as a 'Preferred Submarine Rescue Partner' in the region.
