INS Nirdeshak, the second ship of the Survey Vessel (Large) project, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 18 December 2024 at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, in a ceremony presided over by Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth. Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, hosted the ceremony. The ship is the second of four Survey Vessel (Large) ships being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. Built with over 80% indigenous content, it carries hydrographic systems such as Multi Beam Echo Sounders and Side Scan Sonars, and is designed for hydrographic surveys, navigation aid and maritime operations.
