The Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun, the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, on 31 August 2026, in the presence of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. INS Nipun was indigenously designed and built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Visakhapatnam. The ship supports saturation, air and heliox diving, carries remotely operated underwater systems and can support submarine rescue operations. With sister ship INS Nistar, INS Nipun strengthens the Navy's diving, salvage and submarine rescue capability, positioning India as a 'Preferred Submarine Rescue Partner' in the region.
