INS Mahe, first Mahe-class anti-submarine shallow water craft, commissioned
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe, the first of the indigenously designed and built Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, on 24 November 2025.
Summary
The ceremony was presided over by Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and hosted by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, FOC-in-C Western Naval Command; the ship joins the Western Naval Command. Built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Kochi, it is the lead ship of eight in its class and has over 80% indigenous content. It is named after the coastal town of Mahe on the Malabar Coast; its crest shows the Urumi, the flexible sword of Kalaripayattu, its mascot is the Cheetah and its motto 'Silent Hunters'.
