INS Imphal makes maiden port call at Port Louis for Mauritius's 57th National Day
Indian Navy destroyer INS Imphal made her maiden port call at Port Louis, Mauritius, on 10 March 2025, to take part in the 57th Mauritius National Day celebrations on 12 March.
Summary
INS Imphal arrived at Port Louis on 10 March 2025 on her maiden port call, for a stay until 14 March. The ship was to field a marching contingent, a naval band and a helicopter for the flypast at the National Day parade at Champs de Mars on 12 March, where PM Narendra Modi was Chief Guest, and to conduct a joint EEZ surveillance exercise with ships of the Mauritius National Coast Guard. The Navy linked the visit to the vision of SAGAR, announced by Modi in Mauritius a decade earlier, on 12 March 2015, at the commissioning of MCGS Barracuda, the first Indian-built warship inducted into the Mauritius National Coast Guard. Commissioned in December 2023, Imphal is the third of four Project 15B (Visakhapatnam-class) indigenous destroyers.
