INS Arnala, first Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, commissioned

On 18 June 2025 at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, INS Arnala, the first Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, was commissioned into the Eastern Naval Command in the presence of CDS Gen Anil Chauhan.

INS Arnala, the first of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, was commissioned into the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy on 18 June 2025 at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Larsen & Toubro Shipbuilding were represented at the ceremony. The 77-metre warship, with a gross tonnage of over 1,490 tonnes, is the largest Indian naval warship propelled by a diesel engine–waterjet combination. The ship is designed for sub-surface surveillance, search and rescue, and low-intensity maritime operations. Gen Chauhan described the Navy's transition from a 'Buyer's Navy' to a 'Builder's Navy'. The ship is named after the historic coastal fort of Arnala off Maharashtra.
