On 6 October 2025 at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), in a ceremony presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, with over 80% indigenous content, the 77 m vessel displaces about 1,500 tonnes and is designed to detect, track and neutralise submarines in coastal and shallow waters. Powered by three waterjet propulsion systems driven by marine diesel engines, it can also handle maritime surveillance, search and rescue, coastal defence and low-intensity maritime operations. The ship is named after Androth, the northernmost island of the Lakshadweep group.
