On 27 October 2025, the Indian Army observed Infantry Day, also called Shaurya Diwas (the 79th), with a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi laid a wreath at the Amar Chakra. Three Vir Chakra veterans of Operation PAWAN, Operation MEGHDOOT and Operation CACTUS LILY also laid wreaths. Infantry Day is observed every year on 27 October because on that day in 1947 Indian Army infantrymen were the first troops to land at Srinagar airport, and their operations repelled the Pakistan-backed tribal invasion.
