On 29 October 2024, Indian Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications (DETEC) of the Swiss Confederation to enhance technical cooperation. The MoU was renewed and formalised through videoconferencing. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said it provides a comprehensive framework for collaboration, and DETEC head Federal Councillor Albert Roesti said Swiss railway technology would help improve efficiency and safety. The original MoU was signed on 31 August 2017 and was valid for five years.
