Indian Army signs contract with L&T for 223 indigenous ACADA chemical agent detection systems

The Indian Army signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro on 25 February 2025 for 223 Automatic Chemical Agent Detection and Alarm (ACADA) systems at ₹80.43 crore, under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

Summary

On 25 February 2025 the Indian Army signed a contract with M/s L&T Ltd for procurement of 223 Automatic Chemical Agent Detection and Alarm (ACADA) systems at a cost of ₹80.43 crore under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, with more than 80% of components sourced locally. ACADA was designed and developed by DRDO's Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior. It detects chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals by sampling air, working on the principle of Ion Mobility Spectrometry with two highly sensitive IMS cells, and will strengthen the Army's chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defence, including for industrial-accident disaster relief.
