India adds record 29.52 GW of renewable energy capacity in FY 2024-25; total reaches 220.10 GW
India added a record 29.52 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2024-25, taking total installed RE capacity to 220.10 GW as of 31 March 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said on 10 April 2025.
Summary
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), India added a record 29.52 GW of renewable energy (RE) capacity in FY 2024-25, raising total installed RE capacity to 220.10 GW as of 31 March 2025, from 198.75 GW a year earlier. Solar contributed the most, with 23.83 GW added (against 15.03 GW in the previous year), taking total solar capacity to 105.65 GW: 81.01 GW ground-mounted, 17.02 GW rooftop, 2.87 GW hybrid and 4.74 GW off-grid. Wind added 4.15 GW (against 3.25 GW in 2023-24) to reach 50.04 GW. Bioenergy capacity stood at 11.58 GW. The Ministry linked the growth to India's target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030.
