India and Nepal launch UPI–NPI peer-to-peer remittance linkage in New Delhi

India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Nepal's National Payments Interface (NPI) were linked for peer-to-peer (P2P) cross-border personal remittances when External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal jointly launched the linkage in New Delhi on 6 June 2026, after their bilateral talks. The Finance Ministry, in a release on 11 June 2026, said the mechanism enables seamless, secure and instant person-to-person transfers between the two countries. The technical integration was carried out by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India, and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL). According to the ministry, UPI is accepted in nine countries: Singapore, the UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.
