India and Nepal sign agreements for two 400 kV cross-border transmission lines

POWERGRID and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) signed Joint Venture and Shareholders' Agreements in New Delhi on 29 October 2025 to set up two joint venture entities, one in India and one in Nepal, to develop two 400 kV double-circuit cross-border transmission links: Inaruwa (Nepal)-New Purnea (India) and Lamki (Dododhara) (Nepal)-Bareilly (India). The agreements came as Nepal's Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, met Union Power Minister Manohar Lal. The ministers reviewed hydropower development in Nepal and regional grid connectivity for cross-border electricity trade.
