The election took place at the 14th Plenary Meeting of UN-GGIM-AP, held from 24 to 26 September 2025 in Goyang-si, Republic of Korea, hosted by Korea's National Geographic Information Institute. UN-GGIM-AP is one of five regional committees of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) and represents the national geospatial information agencies of 56 countries. Makwana said India's work will align with the UN-GGIM Strategic Framework.
