India wins 1 gold and 3 silver at the 37th International Biology Olympiad

All four Indian students won medals – 1 gold and 3 silver – at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Vilnius, Lithuania, held from 12 to 19 July 2026.

The 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 12 to 19 July 2026, saw all four Indian students win medals: Bhavyaa Gunwal of Mahendragarh, Haryana, won gold, while Soumil Maity (Howrah, West Bengal), Nishit Kalani (Pali, Rajasthan) and Anmol Kumar (Mansa, Punjab) won silver. IBO 2026 had 307 students from 78 countries, and 31 gold, 61 silver and 91 bronze medals were awarded. The Indian team was led by Prof. Rekha Vartak and Dr Anupama Ronad of HBCSE-TIFR.
