Core sector grows 5.4% in July 2026

The Index of Core Industries (base 2022-23) grew 5.4% year-on-year in July 2026, slightly below June's 6.0%, the Commerce Ministry said on 20 August 2026.

The Index of Core Industries (ICI), with base year 2022-23, grew 5.4% year-on-year in July 2026 (provisional), slightly below the 6.0% final growth for June 2026, according to data released on 20 August 2026. Iron ore led with 29.5% growth, followed by cement (13.1%), electricity (9%), coal (7.6%), steel (2.9%) and refinery products (2.7%). Natural gas, crude oil and fertilizers contracted. Cumulative growth for April-July 2026 was 4.3%, against 1.5% a year earlier.
