On 1 December 2024, in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclonic Storm Fengal, after crossing the coast near Puducherry on the night of 30 November, remained practically stationary and weakened into a deep depression, centred at 11:30 IST close to Puducherry, about 30 km north of Cuddalore. IMD expected it to move westwards very slowly and weaken into a depression over north Tamil Nadu, and warned of extremely heavy rainfall (≥ 21 cm) at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 1 December.
