Summary

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) celebrated its 150th Foundation Day on 14 January 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the event. The PM unveiled a commemorative postage stamp and coin and released the IMD Vision-2047 document, a roadmap for weather resilience and climate change adaptation. The PM noted that IMD was set up on 15 January 1875. IMD's Doppler Weather Radar network grew from 15 in 2014 to 39 in 2023, and its Flash Flood Guidance system also serves Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
