First IIP release on new base 2022-23: April 2026 growth at 4.9%

On 1 June 2026, MoSPI released the first Index of Industrial Production on the new base year 2022-23, showing 4.9% growth in April 2026, led by 6.2% growth in manufacturing.

Summary

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released on 1 June 2026 the first All India Index of Industrial Production (IIP) of the new series, with the base year revised from 2011-12 to 2022-23. The revision brings an updated item basket, revised weights and wider sectoral coverage, and was carried out under the Technical Advisory Committee for Base Year Revision of IIP (TAC-IIP), whose report was released on 25 May 2026. The quick estimate shows IIP growth of 4.9% in April 2026 over April 2025, with the index at 118.9 against 113.4. Growth in the four sectors was: Mining and Quarrying (-)5.1%, Manufacturing 6.2%, Electricity and Gas Supply 4.9%, and Water Supply, Sewerage and Waste Management 6.6%. Within manufacturing, 17 of 23 industry groups at the NIC 2-digit level grew.
