The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the quick estimate of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP, base 2011-12=100) on 2 March 2026, showing year-on-year growth of 4.8% in January 2026, down from 7.8% in December 2025. Mining grew 4.3%, manufacturing 4.8% and electricity 5.1%. The index stood at 169.4 against 161.6 in January 2025. Within manufacturing, 14 of 23 industry groups grew; the top contributors were basic metals (13.2%), motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (10.9%) and other non-metallic mineral products (9.9%). The quick estimate is normally released on the 28th of every month and is revised later.
