The Department of Health Research and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) began the second edition of ICMR-SHINE (Science and Health Innovation for NextGen Explorers) on 11 August 2026. The two-day open-day programme on 11–12 August welcomes about 30,000 school students to 83 locations, including ICMR institutes and Model Rural Health Research Units, from Keylong to Kerala and Diu to Nagaland. It is inspired by PM Narendra Modi's call for students to 'spend one day as a scientist'. A SHINE website and a nationwide student research competition were also announced.
