On 4 October 2025 at Karaikal, Puducherry, the Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Akshar, the second in a series of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs). The 51-metre ship was designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited with over 60% indigenous content. It displaces about 320 tonnes, has two 3,000 kW diesel engines, a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 1,500 nautical miles. It has indigenous controllable pitch propellers and carries a 30 mm CRN 91 gun and two 12.7 mm stabilised remote-controlled guns. Based at Karaikal, it comes under Coast Guard Region (East) through District Headquarters No. 13. Additional Secretary (Defence) Dipti Mohil Chawla commissioned it. 'Akshar' means 'imperishable'.
