The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) observed International Coastal Cleanup Day 2025 nationwide on 20 September 2025 as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign. More than 26,000 volunteers, including NCC cadets, NSS members and students, removed litter and marine debris from beaches. The day is observed globally on the third Saturday of September under the aegis of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP). The ICG has been the national coordinator since 2006.
