On 8 April 2025, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the first-ever 'Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research Centre' at Nathatop in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, described as a gateway for climate research in the north-western Himalayas.
