Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, chairing a meeting of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department in Shimla on 31 January 2026, ordered the fourth phase of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) identification survey from 1 February 2026. The survey is being done in five phases. In the first three phases 59,829 families were added to the BPL list, the most in Chamba (13,786) followed by Mandi (12,045). Eligible groups include orphans up to 27 years, women-headed households without an adult male, and families with at least 100 days of MGNREGA work in the previous year.
