GRSE launches Ajay, last of eight ASW Shallow Water Craft

On 21 July 2025 at GRSE, Kolkata, Ajay (Yard 3034), the eighth and last Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft built by GRSE, was launched.

Summary

Ajay (Yard 3034), the eighth and last Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) designed and built in India by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), was launched at GRSE, Kolkata, on 21 July 2025 in the presence of VAdm Kiran Deshmukh, Chief of Materiel. The first ship of the class, Arnala, was commissioned on 18 June 2025, and delivery of the second ship was planned for August 2025. The craft carries a hull-mounted sonar and Low Frequency Variable Depth Sonar, torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, an NSG-30 gun and a 12.7 mm SRCG, and is powered by diesel engines with waterjet propulsion. Indigenous content is over 80 percent.
