On 13 November 2024, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the government has approved the establishment of the first all-women battalion of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Raised as an elite troop, the Mahila Battalion will protect critical infrastructure such as airports and metro rail and provide VIP security as commandos. Women make up more than 7% of the CISF at present. The proposal was initiated on Amit Shah's direction at the 53rd CISF Day function, and CISF HQ has begun preparations for recruitment, training and selecting the battalion's headquarters location.
