Government allows additional 25 lakh tonnes of wheat exports; total permitted rises to 50 LMT wheat and 10 LMT products

Wheat acreage in the Rabi 2026 season rose to about 334.17 lakh hectares from 328.04 lakh hectares last year, and the Second Advance Estimates of 10 March 2026 put 2025–26 wheat production at 1,202 LMT. The department had earlier allowed 5 LMT of wheat products in January 2026 and another 5 LMT of products plus 25 LMT of wheat in February. With the latest approval, a total of 50 LMT of wheat and 10 LMT of wheat products may now be exported. The government said the move would prevent distress sales during peak arrivals while keeping food security safeguarded.
