The steel-cutting ceremony of the fourth of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy was held at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) on 19 June 2025, with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi as chief guest. The Navy signed the contract with HSL for five FSS in August 2023, with deliveries starting in mid-2027. The ships, displacing more than 40,000 tons, will replenish fleet ships at sea with fuel, water, ammunition and stores, strengthening the Navy's blue-water capability. In a secondary role they will support humanitarian aid and disaster relief and non-combatant evacuation operations.
